Local Project
Engineers Without Borders is an organization dedicated to local outreach. Currently Miguel is the local project team lead for the Transformation Village Project. The objective of the project is to provide sustainable resources to citizens of Bithlo, Florida and students at Orange County Academy by developing an Aquaponics system. The system will provide the community with fresh foods such as tilapia, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, spinach, and many others. Aquaponics utilizes aquaculture and hydroponics to create a beneficial symbiotic relationship. The nitrogenous waste from the fish is excreted as ammonia, which provides the plants with nutrients and the plants filter the water that the fish live in. The project allows for students at OCA to maintain learn how to maintain the system.
International Project
Engineers Without Borders is an organization that provides engineering services to countries where the people and governments cannot afford it. Pictured
above are some International Project Team members in the Dominican Republic, supporting a construction project to build a bridge for a village that experiences terrible flooding for many months out of the year. Before the bridge was built, this flooding would cut the village off from any outside resources (doctors, food, police) for months at a time, leading some villagers to die trying to cross.
